Melody Simmons documentary

Wow.

The WEAA-Melody Simmons-OSI documentary series about Baltimore school attendance problems and solutions is great. If these broadcasts could be syndicated to every radio station in Baltimore, so the audience could be as wide as possible, that would be wonderful. Actually, the information surely is of interest beyond Baltimore.

Transcripts and audio files (podcasts) are hosted at the OSI-Baltimore website. Individual chapters can be downloaded, apparently, but if you begin playing Part 1 on line, the entire series plays without a break.

10 chapters have been posted so far. Parts 11 and 12 will be posted when available.

To play a segment on line, select it and press the play button, the middle (right-pointing) arrowhead at top left of the gray window. Not all the chapters are visible at once - scroll the vertical slider at the right side of the window to see them all.

OSI-BALTIMORE PAGE FOR THIS SERIES:

Independent Media and Public Broadcasting

Especially since Marc pointed the way to the National Convention for Media Reform http://www2.freepress.net/ncmr07/ , I have been hoping this site would become a forum for discussion of topics about independent media and public broadcasting.

The Small Screen

What is getting play time on your television screens at home? Confession time: I am a fan of America's Next Top Model on the CW. I am also a fan of the show Gossip Girl, which is about to come back next Monday, on the same channel. It's my junk food, what can I say? I am also looking forward to Big Love coming back on HBO. Anyone else a fan of this one? Did you know that Margene has her own blog?

What are you watching lately?

At the Movies...

What have you seen lately that you like?

I haven't been to the movies in a few weeks, but the last film I saw was Miss Pettigrew Lives for a Day. It was great! Frances McDormand was wonderful as always but Amy Adams stole the show. I could watch her for hours--she is so much fun! A friend recommended I watch the movie Junebug, which she is also in, so when I found it for sale at Daedalus Books in Belvedere Square I bought it. Didn't fall in love with the movie, but loved Amy Adam's performance in it. She is one of those people who you can't help but watch!

The worst movie I saw lately was Vantage Point with Dennis Quaid and Matthew Fox. It was just terrible. Stay far far away!

A movie I am really looking forward to is Baby Mama with Tina Fey and Amy Poehler. And--of course...the Sex and the City movie, out at the end of May!
