Hello
Hello,
I am Carlo. Born and raised in Italy. In Baltimore since November 1994. Married, 2 kids, work in the finance industry. I love politics and I am a news junkie. Until February, I was a fan of wypr. No longer...
I recently (and reluctantly) moved with wife and kids from the City to the county (Reisterstown). But this is another story.
PS I registered for this community and, although a message appeared confirming the registration and inviting me to go to my email inbox to open the confirmation email, I never received such confirmation...
Welcome!
Thanks for joining, Carlo. I will try and find out what happened with your confirmation email.
espresso
Carlo, what shops do you like for espresso? I like 'Spro, Jay Caragay's shop at the Towson Library, and the cafeteria in the Space Telescope Science Institute building at the Johns Hopkins Homewood campus. I once stopped at a nice little place on Falls Road near Hunt Valley, but it is out of the way of my usual travels. The shop on the ground floor of the Milton S. Eisenhour Library isn't bad.
I loved loved loved Artifact Coffee until it closed to make way for Woodberry Kitchen. Preparing to write this comment, I discover that Artifact has been resurrected! I'll stop there for lunch today. Far as I know, the restaurant is the only restaurant in the area that serves decent espresso and coffee.
espresso
count,
at the risk of sounding snobbish, I have to say my favorite espresso in town is the one I make at home...if you have the right machine (I have a Pavoni, but also like Gaggia) and get the right coffee (Illy or Lavazza are videly available in Baltimore) there aren't many places in Baltimore that can beat it...
I have had OK espressos at Sottosopra on Charles Street and at DellaNotte's in Little Italy.
When it was open, I loved the espresso at the Italian Deli on York Road (Sapori d'Italia).
at home
Your opinion about home brew is shared by many.
Thanks for your recommendations. I will check them out.
I hope you like Artifact or 'Spro, if you haven't visited them yet. Artifact is just a couple of minutes walk from the Woodberry light rail station, if that is convenient for you.
Glad for The Center for Emerging Media!
Wow, I'm so glad the Center for Emerging Media has been created! I can get my Marc fix each day! I moved to Frederick County 20 years ago from my beloved hometown of Baltimore. Marc was my connection to the city on YPR. But I don't listen there anymore.
I am a socially conscience type, and also an artist and arts educator. I am concerned about education here in Frederick and across America. The environment is another concern. It's so important to keep up with these issues and with the politicans who were elected to solve them. They have not been doing much solving lately.
I look forward to all the great articles and podcasts online. Thank you Marc, and Cheers to your staff as well.
Doris
Marc is BACK!
I'm so thrilled to have an outlet for my hero-worship for Marc! I came to Baltimore in '84 for school, and returned in 93, until 2000, and then came back in 2005, probably for good. I found Marc on the radio in probably '94 and have listened constantly since then. I do listen to the podcasts, but I miss the community. I miss Gerry from Pikesville, I miss the men of Rose & Ashland...but Marc & Jessica are still at the top of their game...winning the Peabody and all. It's awfully nice to see something I find so essential recognized by the rest of the world for a change...usually, if *I* like it, no one else does.
I hope CEM tackles higher education in MD sometime soon. We need to talk about how hard it is for people to complete their educations at good schools and how some of the diploma mills are taking students for a ride.

I hope everyone who is on here talking about how much they love Marc and CEM is becoming a member because the man has employees and rent to pay now and if he can't pay them and himself we won't be hearing anything! we should all show our support.
Donate/Donate
A shameless plug! But one we'll forgive you for....
introduction
Greetings All-
I am a long time listener of Marc's program and it was the only reason I listened to the station in the daytime. Still miss the jazz in the evening, but I am doing OK. I am so glad that we have the opportunity to be a part of CEM, here from the beginning so to speak.
"Who am I? I'm a Walrus..."
LOL
Let's see: 38, divorced father of 3, been living in Bel Air for 5 years now, and can't shake this twisted sense of humor.
I got introduced to the fascinating quilt that is Maryland/Baltimore politics & culture through this great show on NPR called "The Marc Stiener Show". It used to be on in the late morning and evening during my drive home. And then it got shuffled off to a morning-only show.
But it's back, and I'm glad.
