I saw the new Pixar film Wall-E last week. It was wonderful! A very smart animation. It made me feel pretty terrible and hopeless though. Here is this beautiful film damning overconsumption and we're all sitting there with our jugs of soda and gigantic tubs of popcorn, living exactly what the movie is preaching against.
I also recently caught a bit of the film Happy Feet. Kids movies today are terrifying. I feel like these movies were safer when I was a kid. Now they seem so riddled with anxiety about the world. I asked my boyfriend's sister about it. Do these movies scare her kids? They scare me! She said mostly, they seem to ignore the message or the scary dire predictions in the movies.
