The question to me is not so

The question to me is not so much "will the veep candidate help and support the prez candidate" as "would this person make a good president?", especially with someone older like McCain. A health crisis can happen at any time, not to mention accidents and assasinations. I don't believe that Palin would make a good president, if for no other reason than that the polarizing nature of her views -- abstinence-only education, no legal abortion even in rape cases, creationism in the schools, no attention whatsoever to critical environmental issues -- would be, in my opinion, bad for the country both in terms of our course and our national cohesion.
