Troy Anthony Davis:Ga. Board of Pardons & Paroles/US Supreme Ct.
Hi, Marc. It's so good to hear your voice again--I am now a devoted listener to Morgan State's radio.
I was wondering if you would please consider having a show on the plight of Troy Anthony Davis because of the recent refusal of the U.S. Supreme Court to consider his appeal; looks like an execution will be reschduled. The situation is unjust in my opinion--there was simply not enough evidence to convict him of this crime, plus the fact that former witnesses have recanted their testimony and also those witnesses have alleged that police coerced them into making false statements.
It is a tragedy that police officer Mark Allen MacPhail was killed and I feel for his family; I also believe it would be a tragedy that probably an innocent man, Troy Davis, was caught in all of this and wrongly convicted, especially ONLY on the basis of witness testimony--and thus this kind of execution only addes to the pain of all involved. I can understand how desperately loved ones of a victim killed want justice, but this situation does not provide justice. Execution of Troy Davis would be a grave mistake and undermine public confidence in Georgia's justice system.
Amnesty International has really made a stellar effort to make this case internationally known, and people such as former U.S. President Jimmy Carter and singer Harry Bellefonte and the Pope have sent letters to the Georgia Board of Pardons and Paroles requesting that clemency be granted for Troy Davis.
I hope you will please consider having a show on this case, and in doing so inform many others of the unfairness of the situation--and how they can possibly add their support to Mr. Davis & his family.
www.amnestyusa.org is a source for more information on this case.
Thank you for reading my email, Marc, and thank you for speaking for the people. I really enjoy your shows.
